My Story
Francine Grattan is Maxwell Hall's bassist, and has been playing double bass since 2002. Originally from the Vancouver, Washington, area, she received her Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of North Texas in 2016, and her Master of Science in Library Science (MS-LS) in Music Librarianship from UNT in 2023. Between 2014-2016, Francine was the voice of The Live Wire on KNTU FM 88.1, announcing jazz events in the DFW metroplex.
Francine's jazz pursuits have led her to play with the Clark College Jazz Ensemble, Maxwell Hall, Dynamic Swing Machine, numerous small combos, and more. She has also been a part of classical ensembles such as the Portland Youth Philharmonic, UNT's Concert Orchestra, and the Flower Mound Symphony Orchestra. She has been thrilled to play bass in side-by-side concerts with the Oregon Symphony and with the Air Force Falconaires. She has studied with and performed under conductors and musicians such as Dale Clevenger, Clay Couturiaux, David Hattner, Mei-Ann Chen, Huw Edwards, Alastair Willis, Ken Selden, Jeff Bradetich, Rich Inouye, Glen Moore, Diana Gannett, and others.
Francine has been the Secretary of the Denton Songwriters Guild since 2023, and enjoys volunteering for music festivals in the Denton and DFW area as a concert photographer when she can. She also continues working in radio whenever she has the chance, voicing spots for local sports broadcasts each fall.
